Sea Legs’ Little Learners

Launching September 2025
Welcome to Sea Legs’ Little Learners … our three step interactive package will immerse your Early Years and KS1 children in the exciting experience of learning through storytelling, music and rhyme.
These tools are fundamental building blocks in young children’s understanding and development of language, listening and vocabulary skills … please refer to our Ten Benefits of a Sea Legs Performance.
Step One
Book one of our highly acclaimed Sea Legs’ Little Learners productions and we will send you a link to the relevant pre and post show activity pages – this will maximise the audience’s overall experience.
Step Two
On the day of the show Sea Legs will transform your school hall into a magical theatrical space … Lights, Puppets, Action!
After the performance, there will be an opportunity for your little learners to meet the stars of the show up close and say hello (this is a much loved addition to the whole experience).
Step Three
The third and final step of the Sea Legs’ Little Learners experience will allow your class to expand on the themes presented in the performance. Using the Sea Legs’ post show pack, print off your chosen activities and encourage the children to creatively explore these ideas.
“All the Sea Legs shows we have seen, have been of a consistently high standard. The children are thoroughly engaged from the onset and entranced by the storytelling. I would highly recommend Sea Legs shows to any school.”
Which show will you choose?
To help you decide which production is most suitable for your class please find brief individual show descriptions below.
Little Bo Peep
Nursery rhymes are important for language acquisition and aiding speech development. They also help develop auditory skills such as distinguishing between sounds and developing an ear for the rhythm and music of words.
Show description: The Little Bo Peep show is set in a kitchen where The Nursery Rhyme Man is baking a cake for Bo Peep’s 4th birthday. As he works Cheeky Mouse steals his ingredients. Meanwhile Little Bo Peep has lost her sheep and her friend Boy Blue keeps falling asleep. The show is told through the use of puppetry, narrative, music, singing and humour.
Topics explored: nursery rhymes, birthday party, baking, going to the shops, puppets, music, singing, animals.
The show is also a very good aid for development of core social skills: helping each other, celebration, role play, imaginative play, friendship, interaction and how to behave at a live theatre show.
Tales from the Farmyard
Fairytales can help children develop critical thinking skills and also provide a safe environment in which to evaluate their own emotions and decision making. Additionally, these timeless tales develop confidence through interaction and playful participation.
Show description: Tales from the Farmyard weaves together three fairytales: The Three Wishes, The Little Red Hen and Stone Soup. The show is told out of a suitcase and features puppets, live music and traditional storytelling.
Topics explored: fairytales, farmyard animals, farms, storytelling with puppets and music, suitcase stories, theatre, singing.
The show is also a very good aid for development of core social skills: themes of sharing and gratitude, friendship, interaction and how to behave at a live theatre show.
Edward Lear’s Dream
Nonsense rhymes and limericks are important for language acquisition and aiding speech development. They also help develop auditory skills such as distinguishing between sounds and developing an ear for the rhythm and music of words. They are great fun and as we know, children learn best when they are enjoying themselves.
Show description: Tired out from writing his famous Book of Nonsense Edward falls asleep at his desk. As he dreams, he journeys to magical lands visiting his famous rhymes The Owl and the Pussycat, The Quangle Wangle’s Hat and The Jumblies and encountering a variety of his nonsense characters along the way.
Topics explored: animals, nature, the sea, sailing, poetry, rhyme, nonsense, fantasy, puppets, theatre, music, singing, celebration, friendship.
The show is also a very good aid for development of imagination and self expression. As with all Sea Legs’ Little Learner productions, Edward Lear’s Dream is a great way of introducing young children to the experience of how to behave and interact at a live theatre event.
