Little Bo Peep Little Learners

Pre-Show Activities for The Little Bo Peep Show

Nursery rhymes are important for language acquisition and aiding speech development. They also help develop auditory skills such as distinguishing between sounds and developing an ear for the rhythm and music of words.

The following activities are designed to maximise the educational potential of The Little Bo Peep Show

Recommended pre-show activities:

The Nursery Rhyme Man introduces the show by singing with the audience. In order for the children to fully engage we suggest they learn the nursery rhymes and actions to the following:

Incy Wincy Spider

Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star

Two Little Dicky Birds

If time allows we suggest introducing the children to the following Nursery Rhymes also featured in the show:

Little Bo Peep

Little Boy Blue

Pop Goes the Weasel

The Grand Old Duke of York

Ten Green Bottles

Hickory Dickory Dock

Seesaw Margery Daw

Sing a Song of Sixpence

Humpty Dumpty

Post-show Activities

The following activities are intended to be used after the children have watched the performance. We hope they act as a springboard for you and your class to further explore the themes raised in the show. Please feel free to tailor these suggestions for the age and ability of your group.

Click on the blue links below to print off the different activity sheets.

Activity 1) Nursery Rhyme Character Gallery

Print off our picture frame above and ask the children to draw their favourite nursery rhyme character and write the character’s name in the box on the frame. See how many nursery rhyme characters the class can name. Ask the children to choose their favourite, they can choose one from the actual show or from another nursery rhyme. When you finish this activity you can exhibit the children’s drawings on the wall.

Activity 2) Feed Cheeky Mouse

Print off our Cheeky Mouse activity sheet above, ask the children to draw their favourite food on the mouse’s plate.

You can then go on to play the memory plate game (place some items on a plate, ask the children to look at them, cover the plate and see how many they can remember).

Activity 3) Please note: In the following activity, for your convenience there are two print offs – a child copy with questions only and a teacher copy with questions and answers.

Activity 4) Going to the Shop

The Nursery Rhyme Man is baking a cake for Little Bo Peep’s birthday but has to go to the shop because Cheeky Mouse has stolen the ingredients. Help him remember what items he needs by printing off this shopping game activity sheet above.

Activity 5) Rhyming Pairs

Ask the children to match the rhyming pairs of words featured in the show. Enjoy saying them out loud, putting them into a sentence and coming up with their own.
